A very charming brewery with a top notch (but free!) tour and authentic small town vibe. Overall, Voyageur is just the warmest and most sincere little brewery you could ever ask for. The staff is also extremely nice and the food is good to boot. Highly recommend :)
I was surprised they had any food options. I thought in Minnesota, breweries weren't allowed serve food. They mostly had appetizers, but I can't really judge them on it as we didn't try any.
Live music was wonderful and the crowd was singing along, yelling next songs and really adding to the atmosphere of the place.
Boundary Waters Brunette Wild Rice Brown looked dark but was quite easy to drink.
Service was quick and friendly.
Also, the entire establishment is pretty nice. It's cozy and comfortable, but plenty of space. Also, they have pads under the tables for your knees.... that's pretty awesome.
Devil's Kettle IPA tasted darker than other IPAs I have had. It was OK, but not quite what I expected.
As you browse the menu, don't forget to keep going to the back. There you'll find messages, jokes, pictures, advice from previous visitors. Before you leave be sure to add your very own message.
Definitely will be returning.
I'm not a beer connoisseur, so these are purely amateur assessments.
North Road Fresh Hop Pale Ale was a decent, lighter beer.
I thought this was a decent brewery. The beer options we tried were Devil's Kettle IPA, Boundary Waters Brunette Wild Rice Brown Ale, & North Road Fresh Hop Pale Ale (seasonal).
Great, laid back vibe with live music and a killer rooftop patio that's dog-friendly. I was only able to try one beer but it was a very delicious vanilla porter. Also enjoyed the pub pretzels which, like others have mentioned, were maybe a bit more expensive than other breweries. Keep in mind, you're hours from major cities so the supply chain will be higher cost. I had no issues with the service. I love seeing that the owner responds to nearly every review, good or bad. Great customer interaction.
Great energy in this place!
A variety of seating options allows for both large and small groups. A unique menu makes for some tasty treats to go with your brew. If it looks packed inside, be sure to sneak a peak outside, as there's a patio and even upstairs, affording a great view of the lake.
Really enjoyed coming to this place. Was camping at a State Park and decided to visit Grand Marais, and discovered there was a brewery! And it was a great surprise indeed. Went there and had a couple beers with someone else and they were incredibly accommodating. My beer was fantastic, but my partners was a bit flat... however, the gentleman working knew it was flat when he poured it, so he asked if we could wait as he hooked up a new keg. He went far enough to ask us to try it and let him know how it is, and if it's still not good, he'll try another pour or any other beer of our choice. Great service.
They did have a guy playing acoustic guitar. They had the volume up quite loud on that. Reminded me of a 1980's Ground Round vibe when they always had peanut shells on the floor.
Beer was delish - especially Devil's Kettle IPA!!
