I did like the simple burger was well done but good, beer was good and service was good.

Ordered an Old Fashioned. It was bright red.

Went there last night, had the special and was surprised how good it was. At 8 p.m. the live music started. The musicians were excellent, as good as one would find anywhere. As small as it is, Grand Marais is a hotbed of excellent artists. This is a good place to see the musicians. Yes, heaven forbid, the place was earthy and full of locals. They know each other and visit and carry on, yet I felt welcome. Having grown up in a small town as I did and not being uppity might help.

They have a few (less than five) beers on tap.

Really simple food. Appears to be mostly frozen items from Sysco.

We got some jalapeno poppers. What you'd expect; just know what you're getting going in.

Grandma Rays is a very important local bar for area musicians and the local community. It is the only venue in town with a stage and dance floor and is very supportive of local music. Grand Marais is a hotbed of local music talent and this is the place to see it. Grandma Rays still serves the community as the home of the local American Legion but is privately owned and is also a music bar. If you want a realistic mix of tourists and locals then this is the place to be- it is not just a tourist dead end but a living, community watering hole. This is a very welcoming place for non locals without selling out. You will be drawn in to conversations and dancing. There is a satisfying selection of locally brewed beer and many others on tap as well as in bottles. The prices are better than anywhere else in town thanks to the mix of patrons. The food is American fare and prepared properly. Check out the Friday chicken, taco night, and any local live music you have a chance to catch.

I think it used to be an VFW. Hasn't changed much.

A nice local hang out with a lot happening all the time - Trivia Night on Tuesday, Taco Thursday and music on the weekends.
